Coastcon XXXII

On the weekend of March 20th-22nd, CoastCon XXXII was held in the city of Biloxi, Mississippi.

Many Lampwick members assisted in putting on this convention, and are recognized here:

Randolph and Leanne Allen served as Head of Programming and Assistant Guest Liason, respectively. Randolph also hosted the used game auction. A surprise birthday celebration was held for Leanne at the “Dead Dog” staff party following the con.

Charlotte Pringle and Nebe Barnett ran the costume contest, and would like to extend their thanks to Rob Balder for stepping up as MC after time-honored hostess Mistress Margali Morwentari was one of several attendees struck down by venomous tuna (Aramarkus vulgari). Charlotte also hosted the trivia contest, and appeared with Nebe on other panels.

Karen Morton and Walter Scott hosted the Coming Attractions panel. They were also featured on various other panels including The Intergalactic Town Hall Debate.

Michael “Scotty” Scott hosted a variety of role-playing games in the main game room, including several set in the Honorverse, with author David Weber and designer Ken Burnside.

Jessica Styons ran the “slave” auction for the Saturday night dance and party.

Book Discussion and Potluck Dinner

On Saturday, March 7th, The Lampwick Continuüm held a discussion of Cory Doctorow’s “Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom“; in particular, the concept of Whuffie.

At this meeting, Matt distributed to each member a set of light and dark Lamp pins he had ordered based on plans made by the group. Karen and Walter premiered the finished edits of the commercials recorded at the last Video Rangers meeting.

Finally, this was followed by a potluck dinner with an Italian theme.

Pancake Breakfast

On the morning of Sunday, February 15th, The Lampwick Continuüm met at Jessica’s house for pancakes and related breakfast ephemera. The group discussed current television viewing such as Battlestar Galactica and the premiere of Dollhouse, as well as refining plans for upcoming events.

Matt brought prototype lamp pins from the trophy shop that will be producing them, and we agreed that they are excellent. Chris was officially presented with a lamp at this, his first Lampwick event since being made a member. Matt was awarded a Purple Thumb for grease-burns incurred in the line of duty.

Membership Meeting 2/6/09

At 7:34 pm on Friday, February 6th, 2009, The Lampwick Continuüm gathered for the first time to vote on inviting a new member. Potential member Chris Welch was sponsored by Jessica Styons, with Karen Morton playing the role of Devil’s Advocate.

As a result of this vote, Chris was formally invited into The Lampwick Continuüm and has accepted membership.

Prior to the business matters, we celebrated the 7th birthday of Jessica’s daughter Lucy. Cake and ice cream were served, but were in no way influential in the voting process.

Hibachi Dinner Report

Last night, the Lampwick Continuüm descended upon Ichiban’s Sushi Bar & Japanese Grill, occupying two Hibachi tables with 11 members in attendance as well as 5 guests and one member’s child.  We were entertained (and only mildly singed) by their skillful chefs, and promptly devoured their handiwork.  We also ate the hell out of some sushi and appetizers, not to mention desserts that could easily be considered meals in their own right.

An informal meeting to discuss club business followed the outing and ran well on into the night.
